摘要

JANUARY 7, 2011, MARKS THE 70TH ANNIVERSARY OF Franklin Roosevelt's Four Freedoms: freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom from want, and freedom from fear. The first 2 are deeply rooted, carried from the European Enlightenment into the US ethos by the Founding Fathers in the 18th century. The latter 2, introduced in 1941, have remained elusive. The new health care reform legislation may provide some relief from want and fear. Among the many remaining social issues that affect health, food insecurity and hunger now affect an increasing number of individuals in the United States.
