After the arginine-paclitaxel complex enters the cell, it still must break apart so that the chemotherapy can do its job against the cancer cell. Glutathi-one naturally found within cells facilitates this by attacking bonds that hold the arginine and paclitaxel together. This strategy has the added benefit of potentially reducing paclitaxel's adverse effects because in many types of cancer cells, glutathione is found at higher concentrations than in normal cells.
