Similar to the case of good real estate, it is true for glass and carbon fibres as well: "It is a question of the location", quite especially when they reinforce plastic components. However, the mechanical properties of this material combination depend on the locations, lengths and orientations of the fibres. If the material is to be subjected to high mechanical stresses, it is important to be familiar with these properties in order to be able to predict the loading limits in a reliable way. As far as complex components are concerned, the quality of simulation calculations relating to the manufacturing process is not adequate in all fields. Therefore, measurements are necessary for validation purposes.
