Human microbiota ptays a major role as natural reservoir for bacterial resistance. Fluoroquinolones (FQ) are among the most prescribed antibiotics and a major increase in FQ-resistance is occurring Worldwide. FQ diffuse particularly well in microbiota, which explains their profound effect on the clinically relevant bacteria that compose them. Yet, because of different local pharmacokinetics, distinct selective pressures occur in the different microbiota. However, the overall qualitative and quantitative impact of FQ on human microbiota is major in particular in terms of emergence of bacterial resistance.
