North American jet fuel consumption lost momentum in March, holding steady versus year-earlier rates at some 1.7 million barrels per day. March weakness offset a stronger showing in the first two months and resulted in a 3.4% gain for the first quarter. US demand flatlined in March as higher liftings at airports on the Gulf Coast were offset by lower needs at fuel-intensive locations on the East Coast. Canadian usage fell marginally to 122,000 b/d, while strong tourist arrivals spurred an 8% rise in Mexico.
