Comments on the growth of contemporary electric energy demand in North America

This paper examines actual data for recent trends in electric energy demand in North America. Despite the conception of many persons, the electrical demand, as measured as either annual electric energy use or annual peak demand, is not rising rapidly. The reasons for this failure to grow are discussed, and the potential for new electric energy markets is outlined. The subject of load factor is explained, and the consequences of load factor improvement are discussed. The context of the data shown is for North America.
