COAL IN THE PHILIPPINES

Just north of Indonesia sits the Philippines, a group of islands separating the South China Sea from the Pacific Ocean. If you are shipping coal from Indonesia and Australia to the rest of Asia, chances are you are going to pass the Philippines. The country is most unusual, being a tropical archipelago made up of about 7107 islands split into three island groups: Luzon (northern), Visayas (central), and Mindanao (southern). It was the Visayas group that was most affected by the worst of the typhoon Haiyan in 2013.
