The take up by Rotterdam-based energy trader Vitol of a 10 million Canada dollars minority interest in CIC Energy's Mmamabula export coal and energy project in Botswana has promise to bring the flagging project back to life. In doing so, it may provide the push necessary to successfully build Botswana's coal industry. Concurrently, South Africa signalled a u-turn on its decision not to import energy produced in coal-fired power plants, which was the move that put CIC Energy and Botswana's coal industry development on hold.
