Analysis of Specimen Displacement in Repeated Sliding System

摘要

Despite the importance of revealing the mechanisms of friction and wear for technology innovation, the collection and utilization of necessary information for sliding systems were restrained because of their difficulties. The author proposed a new analysis method to study of repeated sliding phenomena. On pin-on-disk apparatus, the pin displacement perpendicular to the slid surface and friction force were measured and analyzed. Both data were collected as functions of position on the slid truck of the disk, and the variations of their distribution on the truck due to repeated sliding, were displayed three dimensionally. The mutual relationship of the data were discussed with reference to the position in order to show prospects that both friction and wear would be given a unified explanation. Pin-on-disk tests were performed for a carbon steel self-mated pair and carbon steel versus emery paper pair that were expected to show adhesive wear mechanism and abrasive wear mechanism, respectively. The proposed method showed a clear difference between the two mechanisms and gave much more information on sliding phenomena than did traditional methods.
