In the previous paper, the relationship between the surface texture of rubber under the reciprocating sliding condition and the friction coefficient was investigated by using image processing technique. In this paper, we proposed a method to evaluate the orientation of abrasion patterns of 3-D surface shape, which measured frictional surfaces of rubber by a laser displacement sensor, and examined about the relationship among features of surface shape, the friction coefficient and test conditions. As the results, the orientation rate (OR) of abrasion patterns could be calculated by polar coordinate analysis of power spectral pattern of 3-D surface shape. A fractal appeared on 3-D surface shape of rubber. As patterns of rubber grew, fractal dimensions and OR increased, and there were negative proportional correlations between them and the friction coefficient. The equation of estimation on the friction coefficient with a high multiple correlation coefficient of 0.763 was represented from shape features obtained by using multiple regression analysis.
