Although room air conditioner sales maintained a favorable upturn during the previous summer, sales could not escape the effects of the world economic crisis and slowed down in winter. The market in 2009 is expected to remain almost level with the previous year, with total sales amounting to about 7.4 million units. Although the number of units sold in stores is currently less than last year, the growth rate on a value basis is higher than on a quantity basis (number of units). As such, the market as a whole is predicted to expand.
