A New Species of the Genus Paralimosina (Diptera, Sphaeroceridae) with Rudimentary Wings from Mt. Kinabalu, Malaysia

A new species, Paralimosina kinabalensis is described from high altitude area of Mt. Kinabalu, Sabah, Borneo. The new species is very characteristic, and easily distinguishable from the congeners by small and narrow wings and absence of halters. The genus Paralimosina PAPP is an old world genus, and 27 species are described in the Palaearctic and Oriental Regions (ROHACEK et al., 2001). Several species are also distributed in the Afrotropical Region (ROHACEK and PAPP, 1988), but none of them has hitherto been described. Some members are known to be brachypterous or apterous. The genus is well-defined by the presence of ventral appendage of hypandrium.
