(S)-Plakolide A,a gamma-lactone from the marine sponge Plakortis sp.,was synthesized starting from (S)-lactic acid by applying the chiral self-reproduction procedure.As the results of the synthetic research,the absolute stereochemistry of the natural product should be revised to R.
