Menopause is associated with a variety of symptoms, of which hot flushes tend to be the most troublesome. Due to concerns about the long-term safety of estrogen replacement therapy, many women seek non-hormonal therapies to treat menopausal symptoms. To date, only a few alternative therapies have demonstrated efficacy in the control of menopause symptoms and none to the same extent as estrogen Neurotransmitter modulators, such as serotonin reuptake inhibitors and gabapentin, are approximately half as effective as estrogen and marginally better than placebo, in relieving menopausal symptoms.
