Utilization of Polychlorinated Biphenyls with the Use of Chemical and Biological Processes

One of the most urgent problems of the modern world is utilization of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB), synthetic ecotoxicants constituting hazard to human health and environment but at the same time having commercial applications. According to the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants, signed by the Russian Federation in 2002, PCBs and PCB-containing materials must be removed from production by 2015 and completely disposed of by 2025. According to different sources, there are 180— 500 thousand tons of PCBs on the territory of the Russian Federation. The major part of them is stationed in storage areas or contained in electric equipment.
