Vehicle Underbody Sealant Coating

A formulation suitable as both underbody sealant and interior coating for vehicle bodies is disclosed in this patent.The binder composition essentially comprises a(meth)acrylic polymer dispersion(10-25%),a polydiene(or diene copolymer)(5-20%)and an aminoplast resin(3-12%).The remainder of the formulation comprises pigments,fillers and auxiliary additives(eg dispersants,cosolvents,antifoams,wetting agents etc).A number of proprietary(meth)acrylic copolymer dispersions are stated to be suitable,with this component providing hardness to the coating.Carboxyl-functional diene copolymer dispersions(eg co/terpolymers of Bd with ACN or St)are preferred to provide flexibility to the coating.MF resins are preferred to enable low temperature curing and confer toughness and adhesion.
