This special issue of the Turkish Journal of Chemistry is dedicated to the memory of Prof Dr Ayhan Sitki Demir who passed away, too early and unexpectedly, on 24 June 2012. He worked at our journal as co-editor between 28 February 2002 and 13 January 2009 and as the Editor-in-Chief from 13 January 2009 up until his death. During his time as editor of the Turkish Journal of Chemistry, the journal continued to grow and develop due to his tireless efforts. We will never forget his contributions to this journal, to chemistry, and to education.
