JLTV CONTRACT TO OSHKOSH: U.S. Army awards vehicle contract to Oshkosh, decision currently under review

In August, the U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) Life Cycle Management Command (LCMC) awarded Oshkosh Defense the $6.7 billion initial production contract to manufacture the new Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV). The JLTV program is intended replace a large portion of the HMMWV (Humvee) fleet used by the U.S. Army and Marine Corps. As part of the contract, Oshkosh expects to deliver approximately 17,000 vehicles. "The JLTV program fills a critical capability gap for the U.S. Army and Marine Corps by replacing a large portion of the legacy HMMWV fleet with a light tactical vehicle with far superior protection and off-road mobility," said retired Army Maj. Gen. John M. Urias, executive vice president of Oshkosh Corp. and president of Oshkosh Defense.
