A New Test Engine is Born - Wartsila has inaugurated its RTX-4, full-scale, low-speed research engine

The world fleet of ships carries some 90% of the international freight transports and a large majority of these vessels are powered by diesel engines with two-stroke and four-stroke technologies. In order to meet the future technology challenge within the two-stroke engine business, Wartsila has replaced its RTX-3 test engine in its Diesel Technology Center in Winterthur, Switzerland, with a new RTX-4, full-scale, low-speed research engine. Wartsila's low-speed engines, which will be developed on the basis of the research carried out on this engine, will be employed for propulsion of all types and sizes of seagoing ships built around the globe.
