Alaskan Inter-Island Service Receives Second Ferry

The 60 m, Caterpillar-powered ferry M/V Stikine went into service out of the port of Coffman Cove on Alaska's Prince of Wales Island in May. It will normally service Coffman Cove, Wrangell and Petersburg in southeast Alaska operating under aegis of the Inter-Island Ferry Authority. The IFA was formed by six southeastern Alaskan communities. The auto/passenger ferry represents an upgraded version of the Prince of Wales, also built by Dakota Creek Industries of Anacortes, Washington, U.S.A., two years ago. Dakota Creek's President, Dick Nelson, commented that he thought his crew had done a particularly good job in building the boat. The ferry is named for the Stikine River in Alaska.
