Chevron's Escravos Gas-to-Liquids Project to Begin Operations in 2013

Chevron is working to start production at the Escravos gas-to-liquids (GTL) project in Nigeria in 2013. Project costs have soared, causing the project to be delayed. The plant will refine natural gas to produce 33,000 b/d of premium fuels, including diesel, said Andrew Fawthrop, CEO of Chevron's Nigerian unit. Chevron holds a 75 percent stake and will operate the project, which is jointly developed with state-run oil company Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation.
