Coping with Uncertainties: The Little Secret of Design Leaders

Like everyone else in his time and before it, Isaac Newton had accepted and used the law of gravity for many years before he made it explicit and measurable. Gravity was a matter of common sense. Design leaders have a shared understanding of another little secret, one that can strongly influence their strategies in the design process: Maximize desirable and minimize undesirable uncertainties. In this article, well describe the importance of this principal law and present a systematic framework for its application. Along the way, well address a number of crucial factors that should be considered by leaders of design teams.
