CIOs struggle to avoid IT investment errors that could cause pain for years, projects that run off the rails and operational failures that jeopardize revenue. IT risks are not just annoying. They can jeopardize the existence of the enterprise. A CIO should be able to rely on the IT-related business risk management leader to avoid problems and more safely grow revenue. Yet, CIOs are often disappointed in the benefits of risk management because of the CIO's own failure to properly select, train and equip that IT-related business risk management leader. This article shares a practical approach to avoiding common mistakes and helping the CIO bring more benefit to the business.
