Duration of action and efficacy of a single injection of moxidectin against Dictyocaulus viviparus infection in cattle

In a field trial in Germany [date not given], 63 cattle (Charolais and German Black Pied, body weight 300-400 kg) with clinical symptoms of D. viviparus infection were treated on 20 September with a s.c. injection of Cydectin 1% (moxidectin 0,2 mg/kg body weight). At treatment, 80% of faecal samples were positive for larvae of D. viviparus. After one treatment with moxidectin a strong reduction of clinical symptoms was observed. No further treatment was necessary. All faecal samples taken at 2, 6 and 10 weeks after treatment were negative for larvae. The treatment of infected cattle with one dose of moxidectin showed 100% efficacy and persisted for at least 45-49 days.
