Immunization of pig herds against porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome. Study of the safety of 'Ingelvac PRRS MLV' vaccine for pregnant sows

Live attenuated PRRS arterivirus was tested, to gain licensing approval, in a 105-sow herd recently infected with PRRS, and in a 290-sow herd persistently infected with PRRS. Gilts were inoculated upon admission into the farrowing house, and pigletswere inoculated at 3 weeks of age. Serum samples were tested for antibodies before and after inoculation. Data for piglet production showed no evidence of an adverse effect of the vaccine on pregnancy.
