Increasing numbers of individuals are seeking treatment for photoaging because of its associated cosmetic and psychosocial distress and its relationship to skin cancer. Ultraviolet radiation causes a decrease in collagen production and enhanced col-lagenolysis. A variety of treatments have been used for the rejuvenation of sun-damaged skin, including topical retinoids, bleaching agents, chemical peels, dermabrasion, and lasers.2 The use of resurfacing and laser techniques results in increased dermal thickness, giving the appearance of rejuvenation.3 In recent years, there has been intensive research in the field of nonablative skin rejuvenation or "subsur-facing."
