In light of this, and future legislation governing somatic cell counts in milk, Genus has introduced the Mastitis Manager of the Year Award. The national winner of the first Genus Mastitis Manager of the Year award is Joseph Watson, who farms 81 ha at Brunstock Farm, near Carlisle, Cumbria with his sons Mark and Martin, He has been battling against mastitis in his 70-cow herd for nearly five years and won a trophy, certificate and ￡200 worth of Genus dairy chemicals following a rapid reduction in cell counts between May 1994 and May 1995.
