A recent study carried out in New Zealand involving 727 dairy cattle has added a possible new dimension to the way we treat mastitis. One of the study authors, Mark Bryan, tells us more. The work we did concluded there were significant benefits from using a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory in addition to antibiotic therapy for treating mild cases of mastitis. This trial, the largest of its kind ever performed, took place on 15 commercial dairy farms in New Zealand. Out of 11,163 cows on these farms, 727 were enrolled on the basis of being diagnosed with mild clinical masitits in the first 200 days of lactation.
