Something is well and truly riling John Trunch this month and the local South Devon Council is first in the firing line. But close on its heels is Defra and the escape of the foot-and-mouth virus. Read on. I am very, very cross. At one of what have become our rare supper parties, a friend and dairy farmer presented me with a council news letter from South Devon. As you will know by now, the Dairy Crest facility at Totnes has now closed with the loss of 160 jobs and the relief of a lot of pressure onthe local roads. This was probably the last of the surviving plants taken over from Unigate.The newsletter of the South Devon Council - after commenting on the sale of the site - states: "SHDC (the Council) hopes Dairy Crest will put its conscience before its coffers and work with us to build a better future for Totnes at this important town centre site."
