In a frank admission Donald McColm admits he was too optimistic in his forward plan budgeting, but does wonder just who will guarantee the security of UK food supplies if more producers decide to call it a day. The long wait is over for most of us inScotland because the Single Farm Payments started arriving in December. We had ours paid into the bank on December 15 and by December 30 it was all gone. It didn't go into a separate account to wait for a rainy day -it has been raining (financially) forthree years. Neither did it become earmarked for a grandiose diversification project. It was simply used to ease the pain on finances and to allow the business to lurch on for a few more years (hopefully!).
