Wiseman cuts price by 0.4ppl

Following Dairy Crest's 0.33ppl cut in its liquid direct supply contracts from Jun'04, Robert Wiseman has confirmed a flat-rate 0.4ppl cut to its direct supply milk price from Jul'04, with the guarantee to hold the new price until the end of Sept'04.Writing to suppliers, the Scottish based dairy said the price debate with farmer representatives had been difficult, given the fact dairy commodity prices had firmed in recent months. The company also reminded producers of the commitment it made, at theend of Mar'04, that it would not move on milk price while competitors held prices. This commitment is known to have caused problems with discussions. Therefore, the company predicts future decisions may need to reflect more on market conditions rather than just price position against competitors.
