With the help of herdsman David Blackham, they run a 100-cow pedigree Holstein herd at Fernydale Farm, near Buxton. The herd has a somatic cell count (SCO) of 52,000 cells/ml, a calving index of 367 days and an average yield of 7,571kg milk at 4.35% fat and 3.17% protein - achieved simply by paying attention to detail, says Bill.
