Verenex Enlists Ottawa's Aid In Dispute With Libya

Verenex Energy Inc. has enlisted the aid of Ottawa in its dispute with Libya over a planned takeover by a Chinese firm. Libya has delayed giving consent to the deal, is alleging Verenex was not pre-qualified to bid when it acquired rights in the country in 2005 and said it wants to exercise a pre-emptive right to acquire Verenex. The company issued a status report today on its discussions with representatives of the Libyan National Oil Corporation (NOC) and the General People's Committee of Libya in relation to obtaining NOC consent to a change of control of Verenex.
