It's All About the 'Girls' at South Mountain Dairy, Santa Fe County, New Mexico

South Mountain Dairy sits at 7,200 feet elevation in the New Mexico high desert in southern Santa Fe County, on five acres at the base of South Mountain. It's normally 90-95°F in the summer, and generally very dry. In the winter we get a few snowstorms of 6-12 inches of snow, and sub zero temperatures. The girls like spring and fall the best: a temperate 75 deg F, very little rain, and lots of sunshine. We started with two weed-eating wethers in 1995; later tried raising pack goats; soon joined theAmerican Dairy Goat Association, and adopted the herd name La Farmita. We were licensed as a Grade A Dairy in June, 2005, but decided La Farmita was too hard for customers to remember, hence the creation of the simpler name, South Mountain Dairy.
