A study carried out by Johns Hopkins researchers has identified HIV patients as noteworthy renal transplant candidates. The avoidance of HIV patients undergoing transplantation has traditionally become common practice as the procedure involves the administration of drugs that suppress ones immune system in order to prevent organ rejection. As HIV patients are thought to be greatly compromised by the disease, a regimen thought to further undermine their - immune systems is unfavorable.
