Forty years ago, it was found by our research group that reactions of metal carbonyls with the azide ion afford isocyanato complexes [2, 3] which, as was also reported by Collman [4], can as well be obtained – vice versa – from azido complexes and free carbon monoxide [Scheme 1, Equation (1)].
