For many years, sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) and sodium laureth sulfate (SLES) have been the mainstay surfactant base in personal care cleansing formulations. Increasingly, however, there is a move to replace these and other sulfate-containing surfactants with sul-fate-free alternatives. The number of sulfate-free cleansing products (hair and body) launched has grown significantly since 2007.
