Changes in road diesel emission standards and innovative engine designs are driving needed changes in required distillate fuel composition.A cetane number,as measured by test engine method ASTM D-613,is becoming a more critical parameter for emissions control.Meeting stricter environmental standards for higher cetane fuels will be a strong motivator for more refiners to utilize cetane improvers(CI)in the near future.:
