While the performance of individual engineering and construction (E&C) companies can vary even in the best of times, economic fundamentals suggest that the business climate for downstream E&C will remain strong for the foreseeable future. Global demand for transportation fuels and petrochemicals is expected to grow as the world economy improves slowly but steadily and leaves behind recessionary trends. "Global activity has broadly strengthened and is expected to improve further in 2014-15," according to the International Monetary Fund's World Economic Outlook, released in April 2014.
