The method involves determining vehicle data of multiple vehicle parameters e.g. accelerator movement (F1), stretch portions (F2, F4) and service braking distance (F3), using a sensor (2) during a driving operation. The determined vehicle data of the vehicle parameters are analyzed with respect to operation characteristics of a driver using an evaluation unit (3) during the driving operation. The analyzed data are outputted to the driver via an output unit (4) i.e. display unit. Target values (S1-Sn) for the vehicle parameters are predetermined. The parameters are assessed and/or upgraded. An independent claim is also included for a device for operating a vehicle i.e. commercial vehicle.
