The Motor Control and Human Skill Conference was initially established by the late Professor Denis Glencross to bring together researchers interested in Motor Neurosciences. The inaugural conference in 1991, then called the Motor Control and Human Skill Research Workshop, was established as a result of a group of Australian scientists meeting at the Motor Neurosciences Symposium held at Collingwood in Ontario, Canada in 1988. Professor Glencross' vision and energy resulted in the establishment of this conference as an important gathering for both new and established researchers in the area of motor control and human skill. Over the years the biennial conference has attracted Australian and international researchers engaged in both theoretical and applied research from a diverse range of disciplines including psychology, human movement studies, electrical and mechanical engineering, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, neurology, kinesiology, speech therapy and sports science. As a consequence, the conference has provided a forum for the analysis of the diverse theoretical approaches employed in the study of motor control and the application of these theories to the investigation of such areas as elite performance, lifespan motor development, and motor disability. Selected papers from the conferences have been published in six previous special issues of Human Movement Science.
