The RHS Chelsea Flower Show is as much a fixture in London SW6 as are the Chelsea Pensioners. And this year, for the first time since the show came to the Royal Hospital site in 1913, there will be a garden for its 325 residents. The dream commissionmeans that veteran garden designer Julian Dowle has shelved his retirement. He has planned the Ecover Chelsea Pensioners' Garden with input from retired soldiers at the hospital. The garden recreates a post-war Utopian vision of Britain, with a traditional English pub, bunting and a Dig for Victory garden. It aims to raise awareness of a ￡35 million campaign to build the hospital a new infirmary.
