Some honey fungus species are a major killer of trees. Physical intervention is so far the only effective control. Honey fungus kills more woody plants in British gardens than any other disease, It is difficult to control and available methods are limited. Chemical oontrol is generally considered inefficient and the only effective method to eradicate the fungus is to dig out all affected roots and destroy them. For most, this is an unpractical solution for historic landscapes and prized specimens asit often means uprooting huge tracts of land.
