From its inception to the present day, Bingley's Sports Turf Research Institute has developed a firm-set partnership with the industry it serves. By combining hard-won experience with rigorous science it has carved itself a special place in the world of grass sports surfaces. This year sees it celebrating its 75th anniversary.In a commercial environment where longevity is the testament to success, this represents the seal of approval on a unique organisation. In 1929, members of the influential Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews, inspired by the creation of the United States Golf Association, established the Board of Green-keeping Research (BGR), Predecessor to today's organisation, the function of the BGR was to advise on the management of golf courses in the British Isles, This fledgling body was originally supported by the golfing unions of England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland.
