Excitonic population dynamics in a driven quantum dot: local field effects

The effects of local fields, due to electron-hole dipole-dipole interactions, on the excitonic population dynamics of a quantum dot structure are studied under the interaction of the system with either continuous wave or pulsed and appropriately chirped electromagnetic fields. The analysis of the dynamics of the system is given by the solution of the nonlinear optical Bloch equations, under the rotating wave approximation. We present both analytical and numerical results of the optical Bloch equations. We put emphasis to the effects of local fields in excitonic Rabi oscillations and to the conditions that give rise to population inversion in the system.
