摘要

Magnetically impelled arc butt welding (MIAB) is a solid state welding process suitable for butt welding cylindrical sections such as pipes and tubes. MIAB welding needs to be customized for a given application and the customization of operating parameters depends on material type and geometry parameters such as thickness and diameter. In this paper, establishment of MIAB welding procedure for the welding of thin walled low carbon steel tubes of 30 mm outer diameter and 2 mm thickness is discussed. Experimental trials of low carbon steel samples are conducted by varying process parameters of upset pressure, clamp pressure, welding current and welding time. Mechanical and metallurgical studies of the weld joint has been conducted to qualify the welding procedure. The details of the experimental trials and the test results are discussed in this paper.
