The golden age of greenhouses could easily be said to have been before World War One when huge greenhouses dominated gentrified England. The carnage of WWI ended this golden age when so many men were KIA that after the war there were not enough people to run the vast glass and cast iron emporiums. Many of these structures fell into disuse or were dismantled and greenhouses were not seriously considered again until after WWII, some thirty years later.
