Effect of Distillery Spentwash on Yield and Quality of Sugarcane var COC 86032

A field experiment was conducted at Research and Development Farm of M/s Sakthi Sugars Limited, Appakudal during 2006-2007 to find out the effect of spentwash application on yield and quality of sugarcane, variety CoC 86032. The results revealed thatspentwash application of 1.0 lakh litres ha1 along with the recommended dose of NPK or NP alone being comparable among themselves. Among the methods of spentwash application, the application of spent wash at 90th days after planting registered higher cane yield to the tune of 6.1% over the application DSW before planting. The yield attributes like cane length, cane girth, number of millable canes and number of internodes per cane and yield in sugarcane were enhanced due to the application of spentwash@1.0 lakh litres ha~(-1) along with NPK or NP alone with an yield increase of 46.5 and 42.5 t ha respectively over the control. The brix % and sucrose % in the juice were increased to a tune of 20.6% and 19.2 % in the best treatment over 17.9 and 16.3%recorded in the control. The increase in purity % and sugar yield was to the tune of 7.2% and 7.17 t ha~(-1) over the control.
