Effect of spacing and number of seedlings per hill on yield attributes and yield of hybrid rice

Cultivation of hybrid rice is one of the strategies to be followed to meet the increasing demand created by increasing population as the rice production is more or less stagnating in the country for the last one decade. The success of hybrid rice cultivation depends on exploiting the full heterotic potential of the hybrids with improved package of practices such as suitability of genotype, number of seedlings per hill and optimum plant population. The hybrid rice seed productiion cost is very high and needs replacement every season. It is very essential to reduce the costs on seed which could be achieved by optimising the seed rate through appropriate adjustment of seedling density which would help a long way in popularising the cultivation of hybrid rice in India. Therefore, a field experiment was conducted to find out the suitability of hybrid, optimum spacing and seedling density for hybrid rice in Southern Agioclimatic Zone of Andhra Pradesh.
