Sea water intrusion in coastal aquifers cannot be identified easily because it needs continous monitoring of chemical quality over a long period of time which may even take several years. Over utilization of water for irrigation from Radhapuram taluk wells resulted in lowering of water table and consequent drying forced the farmers to deepen the wells. When wells are deepened and water level goes below the mean sea level there is a possibility of sea water intrusion leading to deterioration of the quality of water. The water used for experiment contains pH-8.5, EC 14 dSm~(-1), RSC 1.5, SAR 16, Exch Na~+ 34.9 meq L~(-1), Mg~(2+) 31.5 meq L~(-1), Cl 76.6 meq L~(-1), SO_4~(2-) 5.1 meq L'~ mid HCQ 2.3 meq L~(-1). The present study was undertaken to modify the saline water in the coastal belt of Radhapuram taluk into a permissible limit by using amendments like gypsum.
